Leviton Expands LED Lighting Capabilities

Late October, Leviton announced its acquisition of a UK based LED lighting company called JCC Advanced Lighting. JCC is a company at the forefront of LED lighting technologies, with lighting applications available across a wide spectrum of market segments, niche needs, and an ever expanding portfolio due to their willingness to create custom parts for customers.

With Leviton's already very successful lines of electrical wiring and data connectivity solutions, integrating a market leader in a technology that has really taken off over the past few years is a perfect fit for both companies.

For those that may be unfamiliar with LED lighting, the technology is meant to be a replacement to CFL light bulbs, or incandescents. In almost all facets of functionality LED lights outperform the competition. An LED bulb has an average operational life of over 30,000 hours, with many extending up beyond that. This is compared to the 1,000-2,000 hour average life of incandescents and the 6,000-9,000 average life of CFLs. Energy efficiency is unparalleled, usually hovering around 7-8 watts for an LED, versus the 12-20 wattage for CFLs and the 60 watts for incandescents. The only downside to LEDs has been their higher up front cost, but thankfully in recent years the technology has been streamlined, and costs for the average consumer have dropped to between 6-10 dollars. With statistics like that, it is easy to see why a company like JCC specializing in LED lighting has garnered Leviton's attention!
