How Superior Essex Prioritizes Sustainability

by Teddi Strassburger on August 9, 2018

AccuTechBlogs_v034 (1)For Superior Essex, leading the field in technological development is not enough. Because the products that the company produces can be found in homes and workplaces around the world, they feel strongly about manufacturing products that contribute to the overall health of the world, as well as the people who interact with them. This takes many forms throughout the lifecycle of Superior Essex products as the company takes a "cradle-to-grave" approach to sustainability. Some notable ways that Superior Essex demonstrates a commitment to sustainability include:

  1. Zero Waste to Landfill Facilities: The manufacturing plant in Hoisington, Kansas has been Zero Waste to Landfill certified since 2015. This has resulted in the diversion of more than 14 million pounds of waste from landfills through a combination of source reduction, recycling, reuse or composting. Superior Essex prioritizes waste reduction across all manufacturing plants and other facilities, having reduced overall manufacturing waste by 16% since 2011.
  2. Certifications and Initiatives: Superior Essex has aligned its products and practices with several key environmental certifications and initiatives. They are the first and only cable manufacturer to achieve the Living Product Challenge certification from the International Living Future Institute, among others.
  3. Declarations: Many Superior Essex products, including Premises Fiber and Copper cables, feature Health Product Declarations (HPD) and Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) and Multi-Attribute Labels, which feature independently-certified third party overviews of the product. EPDs cover environmental impact, HPDs deal with human and ecological health and Multi-Attribute Labels detail sustainability implications of products, packaging and manufacturing practices.

While Superior Essex takes great pride in the performance and quality of their cable solutions, it is their attention to transparency, sustainability and eco-friendly business practices that really sets them apart.
