OM5 Fiber, Trends and Market Impact
A 40 minute FREE webinar hosted by Brian Rhoney, Director of Enterprise Market Development at Corning Optical Communications
Multimode fiber connectivity continues as a leading optical media now used in the data center for short-reach distances up to 100-150 m. 40 and 100G multimode fiber backbones are being deployed to facilitate data center 10 and 25G server connections. Multimode fiber enables the utilization of vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) to provide synergistic and low-price optical connectivity and electronic solutions.
OM3 and OM4 laseroptimized 50/125 μm multimode fibers are the fibers of choice, but recently TIA has approved a 50/125 μm wide band multimode fiber (WB MMF) for industry consideration. The industry is moving quickly as 40 and 100G Ethernet standards and proprietary multimode fiber transmission variants become commercially available that readily support transmission on standard multimode fiber to 300m and beyond.
