Berk-Tek's Converged Application Score

Over 15 years ago when the Cat 6 standards were developed, transmitting data from computer to computer was the norm. Today, file sizes are exponentially larger and we are starting to transmit a lot more voice, data, video, and power simultaneously to many different IP devices. Knowing that just meeting the Cat 6 minimum might not be enough anymore, Berk-Tek has pioneered a new way ensure your network can handle the stress of current and future network demands by measuring network infrastructure performance through the Converged Application (CA) Score.

The Converged Application Score Test Process

What Coverged Application Scores Mean

The CA Score is based on applications-based tests that measure how well cables perform under the stress of real-world applications such as VoIP, IP video, and power. This propriety algorithm combines several tests that are performed over a specially designed 100-meter four-connector channel. The CA score ranges from 1 to 10, with a score of 10 being the best. A low CA Score means that there were consistent noticeable flaws (dropped frames, media loss, etc) in the applications tested. For example, VoIP calls would usually sound choppy, streaming video would have regular interruptions (many per hour) in both audio and visual quality, and files would take longer to open. Higher scores mean there were fewer flaws. PoE testing is also an important factor; cables that experience less temperature rise achieve higher CA Scores.
