Cutting Edge Video Technology: Surround Video Omni Cameras

by Nate Johnson on October 24, 2013

Arecont Vision is a leading manufacturer of high-performance megapixel IP cameras, and the industry leader in IP-based megapixel camera technology. A new addition to their product line, the SurroundVideo Omni Camera, was demonstrated at the ASIS 2013 tradeshow to be an upcoming powerhouse in the security industry. With 4 multi-megapixel sensors, the camera is able to be adjusted to cover multiple fields of view in a full 360 degree range, among its many other features.

This new Omni Camera can take the place of multiple cameras due to multiple sensors and with its ability to customize the megapixel and lens options. Megapixel configurations are available from 5, 8, 12 or 20 MP, and the lens ranges are available from 2.8mm to 16mm. A clear example of the superiority of this technology, over that which its predecessors may have used, can be seen in the 12 MegaPixel Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) Model. This model is capable of delivering 100 dB of a dynamic view range without lowering the frame rate. The WDR is capable of doing this by combining long and short exposures in the same field of view, maximizing the amount of detail available in either a bright or a dark setting. Compared to conventional cameras, this performance winds up being an increase of 300 times the norm in dynamic ranges.

Additional features for the new SurroundVideo Omni Cameras include: IP66 rated environmental housing, vandal resistant polycarbonate bubble dome, dual H.264 (MPEG-4 Part 10) & MJPEG encoders, privacy masking and extended motion detection.
