Improved Standards and New Products Advance the Reach of PowerWise®

The highly anticipated standards improvements from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has enabled higher power and more devices to connect. Members of residential and commercial areas are continuing to seek this innovation for its efficiency and high power delivery. More specifically, our PowerWise® product suite supports higher PoE in the approved release of IEEE 802.3bt. It is now possible to carry close to 100W of electricity over a single cable to wireless access points for a multitude of platforms and devices.

The role of the new standard to Superior Essex PoE applications is significant to our work in networking cabling in outside plant (OSP) and building applications, as we create cabling and design strategies for smart buildings, spaces, and cities. Just prior to the new IEEE development of standards improvements, Superior Essex Communications released three new products for the outside plant or OSP Hybrid Cable product line, which combines copper and optical fiber technology to transmit both data and power. The products are: the Telco Series Hybrid optimized for Class 2 Line Powering, the PowerWise® Hybrid Series designed to deliver digital electricity packets, and the Tower Hybrid family targeted at Macro Cell sites deploying remote radio heads (RRH) for both LTE and 5G. Spaces with hundreds of PoE devices, or more will experience unparalleled power efficiency, making it possible to yield energy savings of thousands of kilowatt hours per year.

To increase the reach of the work and expertise in the creation of new and developing PoE resources, Superior Essex became a partner for the Cisco Digital Building Solution. The Digital Building Solution enables building automation from security to lighting, WiFi access, and more over a single IP network.
