Keep Installation Costs Right-Side Up...with Upside-Down Design

by Teddi Strassburger on December 2, 2022

panduit wyrThe Panduit Wyr-Grid Overhead Cable Pathway System isn't just upside-down because it looks cool... There are some very important reasons for this design decision! Read on to learn why the Panduit Wyr-Grid Overhead Cable Pathway System is upside-down and what that means for you.

The Wyr-Grid tray is “upside down” because the design is based on a strong wire mesh platform reinforced with 1-1/2” high wire mesh walls that are oriented downward. This gives the appearance of an upside-down wire mesh tray. While it may appear unconventional, this design combines the best attributes of cable runway with the flexibility and utility of wire mesh pathways.

Because it uses fewer, but stronger, wires, this design approach offers you faster and simpler installations. You don't have to spend as much time cutting and dressing wires. Plus, since the sidewalls don't have to be cut away to create a tee or cross pathway beam, strength is maintained. That means you don't need as many supports as you may need with a different design. The tray design also enables splice connections to provide integral bonding of the sections; no need for jumpers or scraping away paint to create a bond here. As a result of all of these features, the Wyr-Grid system reduces installation time by as much as 50% compared to traditional wire basket systems.

Beyond reducing installation time, the Wyr-Grid upside-down design improves ease of installation. With a flat surface, or platform, from which cables and cable bundles can be swept off to transition into cabinets or vertical cable managers, you won't have to thread them through or over a wire mesh wall. If you need sidewalls, snap-on sidewalls can be used to manage cable loads. This design approach allows the use of other snap-on accessories too, like bend radius control spill-outs, and since they're snap-on, you don't have to cut wires to install them. It really doesn't get easier than that.

While the upside-down design is likely something you haven't seen before, it offers so many benefits! From great time savings to ease of installation, the Panduit Wyr-Grid Overhead Cable Pathway System is designed to keep your installation costs "right-side up."
