Introducing the New Belden REVConnect FlexPlug

by Teddi Strassburger on April 9, 2019

Traditional-vs- Direct-ConnectionField-terminated plugs help you every day by making it easier and faster to connect Internet of Things (IoT) devices, including PoE LED lighting, surveillance cameras, digital signage displays, wireless access points and more. They cut down on the numerous steps you used to have to follow just to do your job.

Field-terminated plugs support modular plug terminated link (MPTL), a new type of topology included in the ANSI/TIA-568.2-D standard. This topology is also known as "direct connect," since it allows a variety of devices to be plugged without an outlet and patch cord. Check out the image to the right to see how it works.

Now, just like with any other new technology, you might have some questions about how field-terminated plugs really work. You might wonder if they're compatible with all types of devices or if they perform as well as traditional plugs. It's understandable that you have these concerns.

Belden is now offering a new type of field-terminated plug - the REVConnect FlexPlug - to enable high-performance, direct connections while also addressing those concerns associated with traditional field-terminated plugs. Let's look at how its top features:

  • The FlexPlug works with any IoT device that uses a RJ45 plug, so cameras, wireless access points, displays and lighting are all good to go.
  • It features the award-winning REVConnect termination method - just use the REVConnect tool and you're done!
  • It can be deployed in applications where the size of a typical field-terminated plug can't be used to create a direct connection to a device due to plug size and/or cable routing constraints.
  • It eliminates the need for a jack, biscuit box and patch cord, meaning it offers faster installation with fewer components.

The FlexPlug product family consists of Category 6A (10GX) and Cat 6+ unshielded REVConnect flexible, plenum-rated plugs. These plugs allow you to quickly connect a terminated REVConnect core on horizontal cabling to IoT and PoE devices up to 100W. Learn more about FlexPlug here.
